You should read this if:

  • If you are looking for a way to organise your thoughts, ideas and way of life.

  • If you would love to document parts of life (not just in the form of journals and pictures).

  • If you are looking for a productivity app.

Why Notion?
  • Helps organize thoughts, ideas, related files and links

  • Beautiful interface (also on the mobile app)

  • Free of cost for the basic features (which is more than enough for personal use)

  • Easy to share

  • Immensely helpful to work as a team as well

I got introduced to the app accidentally and surprisingly unlike other apps, this has stuck with me for over 5 years.

I have treated notion like the cupboard with all the achievements stacked, occasionally dusted and rearranged. I open it now and then, mostly when sad and bored, but I always take pride in its existence.

Let's quickly dive into the contents of a few pages in my notion, that I think are worth sharing:

Personal Dashboard

A personal Dashboard is like the living space in a house.

It has links to pages frequently visited including Journal, Wishlist, Bucket List, Routine etc.

It has a few personal pages like:

  • Are you sad? Take a hug

  • When in need of motivation, come here.

These pages have words that I might want my sad or demotivated self to read.

They might not always have the right convincing words but are a great reminder of how strong I had been and a reassurance from my old self to my future self that things would get better. A simple way to instil hope.

There’s also this page that has my contradicting views on leading a life - if I need to be happy or content. The page has a short debate and an answer convincing so far. I can come back to it any time the doubt arises again to add more arguments and change stances if required.

Simple Pleasures

This has a list of things that I would love to do.

This is not the same as a bucket list as they are not ambitious plans for the long term,

they are simple cravings for the near future.

For example, it currently has in it - Repainting and selling old furniture, learning Sikku Kolam etc.

What I love to do:

This is a page with a list of hobbies that I pursue. It has in it prompts for future works and records of completed works.

At times of “creativity-block”, as the artists usually call it or during downtimes in your hobby, when I feel like I am not good at it, it helps immensely to go back and look at the old works.

Satisfaction

Satisfaction is the page with my to-do list. I like to maintain a to-do for the entire week and keep updating them with tasks as they pop up. This helps sort out work based on other tasks at hand.

More time-consuming tasks are pushed aside separately based on the status of completion in a table format as “Done”, “In Progress” and “To-Do”.

Notion has been at the top of my recommendation lists for those who wish to be organised, those who write a lot, and those who journal. I get excited every time I talk about it to anyone and that made me write a blog about it.

I would love to hear from you if you are already using Notion, if you would like to experiment with any of these ideas or if you have suggestions for similar apps!
