She got up from where she was lying, not moaning about her knee pain, and got him his handkerchief.
He dismissed her without a thank you. Not a smile. Not a thank you.
I told him, “You can probably be a little more kind to Aachi.”
And he asked, “Oh really? Have you heard from our neighbours what they say about how I treat your Aachi? They speak so highly of us!”
“Maybe I know a bit more than the neighbours.”
“Okay then, Miss, teach me how to be kind.” I know I was getting on his nerves, but I continued.
“Tell her, 'Goodnight, I love you' every night before going to bed.”
He screamed, “Anbu! I love Ooo!”
And I could just not control smiling and going red. I heard my sister from behind go “Awwww.”
“Aachi! Tell 'I too,'” we compelled.
She came laughing out of the room and said, “Let’s see how the tables turn when you all are away!”
“He is willing to say it at least today, come on, say 'Me too.'”
She turned around not facing any of us, hiding her reddening cheeks and said, “Me too.”
And from that day on, she would go to sleep blushing at him saying ‘I love you.’
